This is an effort to leave family history for my children of their paternal great grandparents. Both were born in Scotland and this country has always fascinated me with my Grandmothers stories of her childhood.
Joan Ainsley Leslie Robertson left Scotland with her mother and six siblings, four years after her father died. They immigrated to Toronto, Canada, where her mother had family to help raise the youngest of 14 children.
Her brother Archie, had promised Joan in marriage to a man named William Hall Shaw. My grandmother Joan, was greatly dismayed at this arrangement as her heart was left in Scotland with a beau who played piano in a pub. She was forced to marry William and from this marriage came two sons, William Thomas and Leslie Francis, my father.
I remember my grandmother speaking of her siblings but to this day, I can only remember seven of them. This is where my search begins, to locate my grandmothers remaining seven siblings and families in Scotland, as well as my extended family in Canada that we have not seen in over 25 years.
