I started this only after living in Berlin Germany for a year and having so many Germans comment on my last name. Finally after meeting a second cousin who reminded me that our ancestors go back to the 1200's in the Stuttgart area my curiosity simply overwhelmed me; why did my ancestors leave Deutschland?
