Capt. Jim & Shelley Kosmo Family Home Page

Updated February 26, 2006

As with most families, the Kosmo Family Tree is a work in progress. My Mother Virignia worked many years acquiring data and I have carried the pursuit farther. The advent of the internet and such software as My Family Tree have greatly aided my search along with many helpful distant relatives who have graciously shared their findings. This information is but a portion of what I have accumulated but hopefully it will help future descendants realize from where they came.
The United States is a very young nation; thus, virtually everyone who lives here can trace their heritage to other countries. Our nation was built by immigrants, often desperate individuals who had fled famine, religious persecution or poverty for the land of promise. The Kosmos arrived from Norway in 1873, the Fischers came from Austria in 1863, the Oldfields from England in 1849 and the Strouds from England in 1686. (I have documented the Strouds back to James Stroud of Greenbrier Co., VA born 1745-60 to his death in Edmonson, KY in 1805 but the link to Edward Stroud who came to America in 1686 is not validated. I have worked many years to find proof, as have other researchers, but it remains an elusive mystery. My research and the conclusions of two professional genealogy researchers I hired point to a strong belief that James is descended from Edward but the proof is a mystery for you to solve.)
