MOOR/WEHRLE - CALUMET CITY, ILLINOIS/SWITZERLAND

Updated November 9, 2000

About Our Family Research

Researching the MOOR/MOORE family history, that of my paternal Great-grandparents, Ferdinand and Julia Wehrle/Moor. The Moor's came to America in 1885 (I believe) and resided in Calumet City, Illinois for approximately 50 years, both dying in 1935, in Illinois.

Would love to discover the name of the ship the Fredinand Moor family came to America on, and at what Port of Entry they arrived at in America ???

The Ferdinand Moor family hailed from (Vordenwald, Aargau) Switzerland, to the best of my knowledge.

Ferdinand and Julia had several children, only 3 survived; two daughters and a son, Freda, Bertha, and Fred, my grandfather, who died in 1928, long before I was born. Both ancestors are buried in Illinois.

My father was only 4-years-of-age when his father expired.

I do know that the Moor's took in a child to live with them, do not know what that child's name was, although it was a boy.

Dad knows very little about his family history, but do have some dates, locations, etc.

Other surnames tied in with the Moor family tree are as follows:
Rickli, Siegrist, Wehrle, Emerson, Suter/Sutter? Koglin, Crucius, Endicott, Barforth, and Gross.

Great-grandfather Ferdinand Moor used no "e" on the end of his name. "Moore", is what I grew up as/with, as did my father. I have no explanation for this, although elders in the family claim that "Moor" is correct.

Would sincerely appreciate hearing from someone who might be interested in sharing a bit of genealogical treasure. Will reciprocate and share information to the best of my ability.

Thank you, and wishing all genealogy researchers much success in the tracing of their family history. It is quite a challenging endeavor to tackle.

Maybe, together, we can place the pieces of past history on the correct branches of the family tree.

I can only hope to make a connection. Let us talk.

Sincerely,

Mary Moore-Kreilkamp
