Updated October 22, 2002

About Our Family Research

The Kufahl family that settled in Dane Co., WI started with the founder - Christian Friedrick Kufahl(1835-1925). Many relatives have roots into Jefferson County as well. The marriage of Christian and birth of his children took place in Stolzenhagen, (Germany)Prussia.

He married Dorthea Sophia Kuehl(or Kuhl)(1832-1916) and 5 children, 2 died as children, 1 is unknown (Marie Louise) and two sons that emmigrated with them to America: Gustave Herman (1875-1955) and Wilhelm (William) Friedrich. (1859-1941). The parents of Christian Friedrick are unknown at this time.

Christian and his family, and Dorothea's sister, Louisa Kuehl, emmigrated on the ship, Braunschweig, from Bremen, Germany to Baltimore, MD, arriving on 4-17-1884. It is suspected they came from Baltimore to Milwaukee before settling in Deerfield.

Gustave H. Kufahl married Marlena Holseter (1880-1950) from Norway. Unknown if they had children.

William F. Kufahl married Marie Heimann (Heyman)(1863-1936)from Germany. They were married in Jefferson Co., WI. William and Marie had 5 children all born in the USA. We are direct descendents of this line. More information on this available.
