The first family genealogy was done by Johannes (Hans) Hoting. It was done in German and passed to the family in America where, according to Kating Bell Hoting Scott, it was translated to English. It was discovered that Hans found the Hoting names at the churches and copied a "male tail" line without adding additonal children. There is another Hoting line in the US and I do beleive we are related, but I cannot make the connection yet. Since John Ludwig (Louis) Hoting came to the US from Germany, I have obtained his war papers that show he was a Confederate soldier (an officer).
