The KUONI name originates, as far as we know at this
point of time, in Maienfeld and Jenins in the Swiss
canton of Graubünden.
The spelling of our name has surfaced in many different
ways. The Rätische Namensbuch lists variations such
as CUONI, KUNY, KHUNI, CüHNI, HUONI as well as
KUNINEN and KUONEN for female family members.
The spellings KUENI and CUENI are the ones that match
the dialect pronounciation of our name most closely.
I have collected details of hundreds of Kuonis and their
relatives.
I am interested in finding further links between the
Jeninser/ Churer and Maienfelder Kuoni and also
explore the possibility of our ancestors having moved
into this area from somewhere else.
