Includes NotesNotes for James Conard Enfinger:
James Conrad Enfinger went by his middle name Conrad. He never married, lived with his mother Laura on the old home farm. When he had to work the grave-yard shift at Saint Regis Paper Company, he would bring his Mother over to stay with one of his sister's (Irene DeBeauford) I can remember him being a tall, big man, very kind, gental and patient (with me anyway). I was 5 years old at the time of his death. He was on his way home from work, had his arm( elbow) out of the window (cars were not air conditioned at that time.) He was on Palafox hwy,or Hwy 29 as it was called back then. A car load of people that had been drinking went over in his lane and tore(ripped) his arm off. I remember my mother getting me up from bed, and as daddy drove to the scene of the accident, mother was trying to put my shoes & socks on me. The accident happened on the corner of Tate School Road and Hwy.29, approx. 1 1/2 miles from our house at that time. We went to the Hospital behind one ambulance, the other one came a little later with his arm packed in ice. I can remember seeing through the Emerg. Room doors and him lying on the streatcher. I could not understand why they let my mother in but would not let me in to see him. I kept trying to go to "Big Boy" as I called him. I remember him giving me paper and pencil to draw with and letting me use the running board of his car as my table. This was almost every time he came to our house, he was my "buddy".
