Johnathan's name was possibly Johann Emfinger. He purchased or was granted 200 acres of land as John George Infinger on the Broad River in South Carolina on November 6, 1753. (This information abouth Johnathan's birthplace came from Donald R. Raney, 1506 Comanche Trail, Garland, Texas 75043-2524)

The Infinger/Enfinger/Emfinger (all the same name) came to America in the 1740's with the arrival in South Carolina of a large number of refugees from Southern Germany. They were fleeing religious persecution and reign or terror and murder by the Roman Catholic Church. The original spelling of last name is unclear, hence forth the many different spellings. We are ALL descended from one family, who settled in what is now Dorchester County in the 1740's. Those who moved west to southeast Alabama use the spelling ENFINGER; a few in the panhandle of Florida use INFINGER; and descendants of one man central Alabama & Mississippi use EMFINGER.
