Family Names on my father's side LaBelle Rutishauser Clouthier Cullen Keena Murphy Rogers
Family Names on my mother's side Lukanitsch or von Lukanitsch Thometz Quinn Beresford
I searched the US Census records to find families and home locations in Chicago & a few other US locations. I have the Keena family Bible, with many births, deaths, marriages recorded. I want to find the record of my ancestors entering the US. So far, I have the year of entering the US from Census records for most of the immigrants, but not all. I know the city of origin for one or two individuals, but not the ship on which they travelled, or port of entry. For the Murphy family, I believe they came to Canada as part of the British army & had their children there. Then retired to western New York, where daughter Martha met and married Michael Keena. A simple trip over the St. Lawrence River? Want to know more about Quinns, most recent to immigrate in 1894. Other Irish immigrants on my father's side, arrived from 1840 to 1848, but their home in Ireland is unknown. On my mother's side, seeking the Lukanitsch family roots in Europe. Also the maiden name of Mary Thometz (of Alsace France), mother to Mary E Thometz, who married John B Lukanitsch. Also hunting for Quinn couple (Thomas and wife Ellen Beresford) who met & married in eastern Ireland (Waterford or Wexford), but immediately left, had their children in various ports in the Pacific, then settling in Chicago.
Many challenges ahead. One treasure, the letters written by my grandfather Edward C. LaBelle from 1897 to about 1903, tell much about this grandfather who died before I was born. Learning how to preserve them.
