The Lachney Family: The Family name in France was Aubert, in Canada it was Aubert, de La Chesnaye, La Chenaye, & La Chenay. In colonial Lousiana it was LaChenay, Lachenaye, Lachenay, & Chenet. In present day Louisiana it is Lachney, Lacheney, Lachenay, & Lacheny. The first family member to come to Canada from France was Charles Aubert. The first family member to come to Louisiana was Antoine Lachenay I. To be consistent, I have used the spelling "Lachney" as the name spelling has been a combination of the above spellings for the same persons. Generally, "Lachney" has been used primarily by the descendants of Octave Alcide Lachenay. The Dauzat Family: The Family name in France and Canada was Ozannes. The name change to Doza occurred with Pierre Ozannes I when he lived in Kaskaskia, Illinois in the 1740's. The name change to Dosa occurred with Antoine Francois Doza I in Louisiana in the 1780's. In present day Louisiana it is Dauzat since the early 1800's beginning with Delphine Dauzat. To be consistent, I have used the spelling "Dauzat" as the name spelling has been a combination of the above spellings for the same person. The Chatelain Family: Jacques Chatelain I was the first Family member to come from France to Louisiana. He arrived at Ship Island aboard the ship "LeTilleul". He and his wife took a schooner through Lake Borne and Lake Pontchartrain and up Bayou St. John to New Orleans, La. The Roy Family: The Roy family is the only French family in Colonial Louisiana to have four branches of their family in Louisiana at the same time. All other French families had only one branch. The Roy family branches were in New Orleans, Opelousas Post, Pointe Coupee Post, and the Natchitoches Post.
