My research includes interviews with distant relatives, genealogies provided by other family researchers, and searches of Social Security and death records. One of my biggest challenges is determining the original spelling of the Lackmeyer name, which was apparently changed at Ellis Island. Most family accounts indicate the spelling was Lochmeier, but the International Genealogical Index claims it's Lochmeyer. For now, I'm going with Lochmeyer. I am also hoping to learn more about Gunda Bernet - other family trees indicate she was married to Joseph Lochmeyer, but one record shows she was married to David Christopher Wiedenkeller - another branch of the Lackmeyer family tree. I also believe a group of Ohio Lackmeyers may be relatives of a sibbling of Alexander John Edward Lackmeyer. I have a photo of an Otto Lackmeyer that appears to be from the late 1800s. Was he a brother of Alexander John Edward Lackmeyer? That would seem to make sense, since my grandfather was named Otto and the family had a habit of naming children after parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc.
