Loynaz del Castillo of Cuba

Updated January 1, 2001

About Our Family Research

My recollection of conversations passed to me by my grandfather Oscar Loynaz del Castillo and his brother Major General Enrique Loynaz del Castillo go back to the 10-year war in Cuba that ended when Cuba was liberated from Spain. Enrique Loynaz was the writer of the Himno Invasor which was an inspiration to the Cuban soldiers who carried the invasion from East to West of the island. His daughter, Dulce Maria Loynaz, was a very celebrated Cuban poet who was awarded the highest award given to writers by Spain, the Cervantes award, about ten years ago, shortly before her death. I would like to know more about the family who I understand came from the Basque country in Spain and there was a Saint Martin Loynaz among our ancestors.
