I am researching the LAMROUEX surname. My research has disclosed that the spelling of LAMROUEX does not extend to generations prior to JOSEPH LAMROUEX born between 1816 and 1820 in New York State. The most likely spelling of the surname by generations prior to JOSEPH would be LAMOREUX or LAMOREAUX.
When JOSEPH first arrived in Michigan is not yet known.
JOSEPH LAMROUEX first appears in 1842 upon his marriage on 1 June 1842, to MELISSA PALMER, born 1821 in Western Canada. JOSEPH and MELISSA'S eldest child, MARY ANN, was born 1842 in Mundy Township, Genesee County, Michigan. The family is recorded in the 1850 federal census as located on their farm in Vernon Township, Shiawassee County, Michigan.
Sometime between 1850 and 1860 JOSEPH sold his farm to WILLIAM SAGE and wife DELIA, and moved his family to another farm located in Caledonia Township, Shiawassee County, Michigan.
JOSEPH and MELISSA'S daughter, MARY ANN, died in 1860, and two sons, CHARLIE and GEORGE died in infancy in 1849 and 1850.
JOSEPH died in 1864 and his only surviving son EDWARD WILLIAM LAMROUEX born 1845, then 18 years of age, assumed reponsibility for the family, consisting of his widowed mother, MELISSA, and sisters ALICE, PHOEBA, and SARAH.
EDWARD WILLIAM married in 1867 to MARY RICHEY, born 1845 in Ohio. EDWARD'S sister ALICE died in 1876 and sisters SARAH and PHOEBA married in 1872 and 1877.
After his mother MELISSA'S death in 1880, EDWARD WILLIAM LAMROUEX, moved his family to a farm located in Brady Township, Saginaw County, Michigan, where the LAMROUEX family remained. Subsequent generations of the LAMROUEX family are to be found from Alaska, Minnesota and Michigan in the north to Florida and Texas in the south and from Maryland and North Carolina in the east to Arizona and California in the West.
Continuing research has not yet disclosed the identity of JOSEPH'S parents or siblings, nor his exact place of birth in New York State.
