The Lambs of Yorkshire

Updated November 28, 2005

About Our Family Research

I have traced the Lamb family back in a direct line through Yorkshire to John Lamb who was born about 1745. He married Isabella Atkinson on 16th January 1764 at Alne, Yorkshire. At the time he was known as John Lamb of Boathouse. I beleive at this time he lived in the village of Great Ouseburn as he died there in November 1817 and his decendents lived in the village for several generations. My Great Grandfather, George Lamb was the last member of the family to be born in the village in 1868. The parish registers for Great and Little Ouseburn are very hard to read prior to 1745 but in the mid 1660's there is a Marmaduke Lambe born 20th May 1656 son of Launcelot Lambe. I would like to trace the family tree back to see if there is any connection between my ancestor John Lamb and old Marmaduke. I have come to a halt at the moment as I cannot find where John Lamb was born. It could have been in the neighbouring villages of Easingwold or Alne. The search continues.
