My research began with personal experiences with my ancestors, as well as oral histories by older family members and my love for old cemeteries. I love to leaf through paperwork and I enjoy intertwining the history of our family with the periods in which they lived. On my father's maternal side I have come across ancestors from Northern Ireland (Higgins)dating back to 1759 or so, and will begin to search for the Conaways. His paternal side (Jackson) we have only recently located records of ancestors born about 1835 in West Virginia, and these records tie into my mother's family (Cornell). On my mother's maternal side we traced the Icenhowers/Icenhours only as far back as my great great grandmother Nancy Erwin (6 generations) and the Watson's date back three years before George Washington was president. The Cornells (her paternal side)go back to Tom Cornell and his wife Tehova, who is believed to be a Native American ancestor.
