My Dad - Louis E. Lambert - was born in 1887 in Michigan , but 1 Parent was from Canada (Father: Cyril Eli Lambert)& mother was born in Swan Creek, Mi. 1855 -Janna Piette - dtr of Mitchel Piette ,b.1830 , Montreal , Canada & Lizine Loisel(le) ,also b. in Montreal.Dad's Paternal Grdfr was Elie Cyril Lambert de Champaigne who married 2nd wife -Madeleine Le Tourneau - 1859 in Tecumseh,Ont. after 1st wife - Macelline Jacque - died & chilren were grown (Quebec).
Family history says his children were furious & said "We are no longer Lamber De Champaigne , but shall be Champaigne hereafter." Madeleine Le Tourneau - my GrtGrdmr - said her father had made her marry this old man who wanted her for himself and , as the children were weaned , sent them to his Tenant Farmers for their wives to raise. After the 4th child , Madeleine said " Enough" and gathered the children in 1870 & had her counsellor (i.e. , lawyer )row her across to Michigan where she decimated her trousseau to make clothes for the children of Grosse Ile & Grosse Pointe to help her raise her family.Therefore , my Grdfr never knew his Father.
