My family research begins with the sur name of MEUNIER dit LAPIERRE. My family begins in North America with PIERRE MEUNIER dit LAPIERRE.
Pierre came to Canada in 1665 from Rennes, France found in Brittney or Bretagne (French spelling) My research indicates that Joseph, son of Joseph H Meunier dit Lapierre and Victorise Tetreault was the ancester who dropped the Meunier portion of the sur name when he came to reside in the USA. He was married to Marie-Elizabeth Wolcott daughter of Abner and Catherine (Griffen) Wolcott.
Joseph and Elizabeth left Canada in 1841 following some of their sons who had previously migrated to West Chazy, NY which is located in the Town of Chazy, N.Y.
Thus the LAPIERRE and some spelled LAPIER stem from this couple.

There are several families with the sur name of LAPIERRE that do not seem to be of the MEUNIER dit LAPIERRE family. There is one named DENIS dit LAPIERRE. There are several other families that sharred the dit LAPIERRE name that do not seem to be related.
