I am researching the following, My great great grandfather, William Lindley who was a merchant seaman from Sheffield, his father George & mother Margaret Chesman. He married Susan Robertson in Dundee 1878.
Her father, James Robertson was a shoemaker in Dundee and married to Betsey Dalgety who came from Forfar.
Her father James Dalgety was listed as a merchant in Forfar but I am not sure of what kind at this early stage in my research. Her mother was Helen Lowson of Forfar.
Betsey had four sisters, Barbara, Helen Janet & Susan and one brother James.
Susan went on to marry a Thomas Donaldson in Dundee where I am led to believe his Father, also Thomas was a bookseller. How he came to this I do not know as he started out in life as a weaver as did his father Thomas from Glamis.
