My Paternal Great Grandfather and Grandmother came to this county thru Ellis Island, and originally settled on the East Coast. They had 22 children and my Grandfather was the youngest, born in Detroit,Michigan. They eventually made their way to California.
My Grandfather worked in the aerospace industry prior to his death at the age of 42.
My Paternal grandmother was born in Los Angeles, in 1936. Her parents both came from Idaho. Her mother was 1/2 Cherokee Indian. She did not work she stayed home, there were 4 children of this union, my grandmother is the last surviving child. They also moved from Idaho to California. Her father was a machinist.
He met my paternal Grandmother when he was 19 and she was just 14. They fell in love,married and my twin uncles were born when
she was 14. There were two other children of this union, my father, and my aunt. Due to unseen problems the marriage ended in divorce when my father was 15. My grandmother worked as a waitress prior to retiring. She now lives in Las Vegas, and is happily retired.
My maternal Great Grandparents both were born, grew up and died in Wales. My Great Grandfather worked in the coal mines of Wales, and eventually died of black lung disease at an early age.
At the time of his death, he left my Great Grandmother with 5 children. My Grandmother was the second oldest and left home when she was 15 to go to nursing school. After completing school and working as a nurse in the Military hospital, she met the man who eventually became my Grandfather. He was in the U.
S. Navy assigned to London. According to my Grandmother it was one of those love at first site meetings. They were married
in 1945 and had seven children of which my mother is the youngest. They did eventually divorce in 1971 after 26 years of marriage. My grandmother was a waitress, and my grandfather was a television repair man. My Grandfather died in 1993, but my Grandmother just celebrated her 80th birthday, and lives with her dog in Bullhead City, Arizona.
My Great Grandparents on My Grandfathers side were born in Illinois, and my grandfathers mother died when he was only 9 years old. His father was left with 5 small children. He decided to have one of his sisters take the children so that he could work, he worked for union pacifice railroad. My grandfather basicaly brought himself up until he joined the Navy at the age of 16. My Great Grandfather died in 1975, in Las Vegas.
