The genealogy reseach for the Daugherty Family has just begun. My name is Cynthia D. Lawson and Mama & Papa Daugherty were my great-grandparents; their son Monroe Daugherty was my grandfather; and his daughter, Lauvell Daugherty-Brown is my mother. I never got to meet Mama & Papa, but a picture of them hung on the wall in my grandfather's house at 1566 Ely Street in Memphis, TN for as long as I remember.
My grandfather, we called him Granddaddy, was a very loving man. Once he became your father-figure, you always had a place to live and food to eat if he had it. We, my mother, my brother, James, my stepfather, David Brown, and me lived with him until May, 1960 when my mother moved us to Fort Worth to live. We've been here every since. My grandfather died in the fall of 1999 doing what he loved - helping, helping someone fix their car. He was a master mechanic. He didn't mess with the new cars too much, but there wasn't much he couldn't fix or diagnose on the older model cars.
August 10, 11, & 12th are the dates of The Daugherty Family Texas Reunion 2001. We are excited about hosting it. This is only the second time it has been in Texas, 1996 was the first. I would like to make good use of the internet to develop a real good genealogical history of our great family. I NEED EVERYBODY'S INPUT. PLEASE HELP.
I have heard that Papa Monroe was born in or from West Virginia. Was he? I need to know Mama Sara's maiden name, DOB, DOD; the other gentleman she married; her children; the children's children and so on. We need an address book, birthdays. Good family stories...
