My wife and I have been doing family research on our various branches on and off for over twenty years. When my mother passed away recently, I realized that we had been neglecting her branch of the family.
Her mother was Minnie E. Sherburne of Maine, in the Argyle, E. Eddington, Bangor, Brewer area. However, my maternal grandfather was Minnie's second husband.
Her first was Andrew Jackson Johnston and she gave birth to six children with Andrew: Thelma Bernice, Calvin Jerome, Olaf Andrew, Lillie Ella, Lorinda Etta and Grace Viola.
About 1921 Minnie and Andrew parted, Andrew taking the kids. Minnie began living with Charles Leroy Doane (a direct descendant from Reverand John Doane, one of the founders of the Cape Cod town of Eastham, now known as Nauset).
She gave birth to five Doane children: Doris Edna, Madeline Mae (my mother), Frances Althea, Gloria Ellen and Minnie Thelma. Minnie Sherburne passed away the day after giving birth to Minnie Thelma, of pneumonia and complications with the birth.
Though she died poor at an early age, this tree is the living story of her continuing legacy.
