I am a descendent of the Geriak and Glus families which both originated in Skwirtne (then Austro Hungarian Empire [Galicia], now Malpolska region of Poland). Like many Lemkos (our branch of the Carpatho-Rusyn people) my great-grandparents emigrated to the US - Glus to New Jersey(Jersey City) and Geriak to Shenandoah,PA, where my grandmother (Amelia Glus, b 1891) and grandfather (Simeon Geriak, b 1891) were born. For some reason both families went back to Skwirtne around 1895 or so and Sam and Millie (later of Yonkers) grew up into their teens in beautiful downtown Skwirtne. As soon as possible they made their way back to the states, eventually connected in the Rusyn community in Yonkers where they married and had two more Geriaks Daria (Dottie, b.1913), my Mom and Nikita(Nick b.1915) my uncle. The only surviving close relative I can find is Emil Glus of Stamford CT my grandmother's youngest brother.
