Things are pretty sketchy back in 1840 and it seems that William Lepper was boarding with the Joseph W. Clendening Family in Enosburg Vermont. It is known that William Lepper was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1820 and appears in the 1850 census by name and in the 1840 census by male individual of the correct age bracket. The Clendening Family is from Ireland and Canada and immigrations may have been between 1830 and 1840, since both of these surnames are absent from the 1830 census of Enosburg.
I have compiled this initial listing of family names and data from my own memory and from resources given to me by my grandfather, Watson William Lepper. I have also received tips, clues and new data from the efforts of my daughter, Suzannah Colvett (Lepper) Foster and my cousin, Bradford Michael Towne.
In continuing work to search for and identify relatives in Canada, Ireland and Scotland I hope that I may connect with many distant cousins from the US and abroad, who may have better recollection and resources than I have managed so far. Other New England family surnames are, Haughey, Lagro, Lumbra, Stone, Hewitt and Corcoran, of which we know very little and any clues or suggestions for building these trees would be very much appreciated.
