My great great grandfather, Carl Heinrich Julius (Louie) LEUNIG, came from Clausthal in the Kingdom of Hannover to Adelaide, South Australia in 1855. Louie came to Australia because of the poor economy in the previously rich Harz Mountains, and became a gold prospector in and around Maryborough in Victoria during the Gold Rush. With the help of other (seventh) cousins, we've been able to trace the family back to a marriage in Clausthal in 1704: Christoph. Otto LEUNIG and Anna Margr. PUTSCHER.
