I started my research just eight years ago after my father's
death. When I was cleaning out his house, I found my grandfather's funeral book with the page in my mom's writimg. I
had always known my greatgrandfather's name Alexander, but my
greatgrandmother's name Catherine was new to me. Town Hall records showed she had died when she was only 45 in 1897 - by the time my dad was growimg up through the 1920's and 30's, his grandmother's name probably came up less frequently. I came along in the '40's and never heard about her.
My regret is that I didn't start this while my father was living. He knew his grandfather and could have told me so much
about him. Because mom, dad and I are all on;y childen, there are no family members left to share their memories. When I meet someone thinking about doing their tree "someday", I say "Start now,TODAY - don't put it off".
