The Amis Family - Fordyce, Arkansas

Updated November 9, 2000

About Our Family Research

To forget one's ancestor is to be a brook without a source, a tree without a root.

The Amis family history began in the early eighteen hundreds when Edgar (Ed) Amis married Josephine Harris on May 20, 1885. Together, they purchased 125 acres in Fordyce, Arkansas which became the home site for the Amis Family. To this union nine children were born, six girls and 3 boys. Ellie Mae, Cora, Daisy, Beatrice, Molly, Connie, James, Johnny (Bubble)and William (Lumpy). All the children with the exception of one lived to adulthood. Beatrice died as a baby. As adults, the amis children married and moved to various parts of Arkansas, Cleveland and Las Vegas.
