SORRY if the tree isn't here yet - I keep uploading it to no avail!
'Chinnery' may be of Norman origin, and may mean 'oak'. In the UK, there are quite a few clusters of variants of the name around East Anglia - for example Chinery, Chenery. It is also found in other parts of the UK.
This particular Chinnery family has not been traced back very far as yet,and the accuracy of the information cannot be guaranteed. They lived in Essex, but some moved to Hertfordshire in the early 1900s. There was a connection with Norfolk, but this may have been by marriage.
For a while my branch of the family lived in Walthamstow, Essex (now part of London). They were part of a local non-conformist chapel community. Associated family names include Snaith (ran the Post Office/shop in Walthamstow), and Hooper (strongly involved with the Wood Street Independent Church).
If you think you might be related to these Chinnerys, or have more information, please email me (v.loesch@libertysurf.co.uk).
