I married a Loftis and have been the family historian gathering all the information I can that has to do with the Loftis clan.
We were told that the original Loftis came from England round about the time of the Revolution. The original Loftis was sent to America (the New Land) because he was caught poaching on the Kings land. The only other option was imprisionment in the palace. Coming in thru Virginia and migrating both south and west, the Loftis clan in the US is wide spread.
Some of the names in the family line were Thomas>Levi( circut Judge/hangman in 1886)>Morris(1800's)>James(1776)>Job(1748)
