Both the Lane and Eland families lived in the Mediapolis area for four generations. Both families originated in England. Much information is known for some branches and little is known for a few others. Other family names in the ancestry are Hutchcroft, Blake, Creighton, Phinney, Ripley, Eland, Blackford, Husted, and Jones. A large number of ancestors were farmers. One of the current Lane's lives and owns a Century farm. The current Lane cousins, descendants of Francis Chapman Lane, have a reunion once a year in June.
