The Lowe Family of Iowa

Updated April 23, 2009

About Our Family Research

For James Magruder Lowe, my eldest ancestor of record, and the pursuit of his ancestors, who are believed to have emigrated from England or Scotland and first settled in Virginia, I hope to find the missing links.

James was born in Virginia in approximately 1806. He grew up in Eastern Ohio, near Steubenville. There, he married Elizabeth (Betsy) Bates and started his family. Around 1842 they moved into Southern Wisconsin (Rock County) when the land grants became available. In 1847, also when the land grants became available, they moved and helped pioneer Volga, Elkader and Strawberry Point in North Eastern Iowa. James died December 3, 1878 in Volga, Iowa.

Through DNA research, my Lowe ancestry has focused on Derbyshire, England where very close DNA matches with the Needham and Blore families have been found.
