My Dad was born and raised in Illinois and left home in Rockford when he was 15. He went to Ogden, Utah, where he met and married Mary Elizabeth Tyner. We looked for genealogy on him for 50 years and finally Mom and my sister, Mary, heard of a man by the name of Gayford Rader Lowrance who had compiled a 275 year history of the Lowrance Family in America. His book has Dad's line in it up to the point where his father is born but nothing beyond that point. We are now trying to update that information and find anyone related to us who might be able to fill in the blanks. We are trying to correct names we know to be different and compile a story of our own immediate family. We have met some of Dad's nieces who were born and raised in Illinois and my sister tries to keep in touch. Dad and Mom are both gone now but of 5 children there are 3 of us left; John W. Lowrance, Jr., will be 81 Aug. 23, 2001, Mary Kathleen Lowrance Cowley will be 79 on Aug. 14, 2001; Evelyn Lowrance died at age of 2 yrs.; Darrell A. Lowrance died of cancer in 1999,age 74; Eileen Lowrance Bertelson, Garland, Schrader is 73 yrs. Jack (John W.) has a family reunion of his family every year but there are no Lowrance family reunions we know of other than that. John W. has 4 children & 7 stepchildren, Mary has 4 children, Darrell has 3 children and Eileen has 3 children & 4 stepchildren. We are trying to add our family names to the Lowrance family history so we are included and because we are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints (often called LDS church) we are very interested in genealogy and preserving names of people who were our heritage.
