Researching Robert Lowrey and Jean Denton. My great grandfather was Jacob Denton Lowrey born Tennessee Sept 2, 1805. Believe he was son of Robert Lowrey and Jean Denton. Robert Lowrey may have come to Jefferson Co, TN from Hardy County, Virginia with other Lowrey and Denton family members or may be a Revolutionary War veteran from North Carolina who received a grant from North Carolina for war service. The grant was in Jefferson County. Would like to know sibs of Jacob Denton Lowrey, if any. Jacob's first wife was Allie Murray probably married in Tennessee about middle or late 1820's. She died Cass County, Missouri 1851. He married next Cynthia Mopin widow of Covington Cooper. Children by first marriage William Henry, George Washington, Mary Ann, James Elgin, Malinda J., Marion Nicholas, Harriett, Leroy Polk, Jacob Jackson, Sarah Emeline, Leonnah. Children by second marriage Christiana, Susan, Rodney Todd. Jacob Denton Lowrey moved from Tennessee to Vermillion Co., Indiana by early 1830's to Missouri after service in Black Hawk War. The family was in Cass Co., Missouri at the time of the census of 1850. Jacob, two sons and a son-in-law were also on the California census of 1850. Allie Murray died and Covington Cooper died and Jacob Denton Lowrey married Cynthia Ann Mopin widow of Covington Cooper. The new family moved to California about 1853. Also searching grandparents Hensley, Dennis, Roberts lines Family has lived in California since 1853 with the exception of one of Jacob's sons who went to Alaska during the gold rush and returned to California and a son of James Elgin Lowrey who settled in Arizona. Counties where most family members have lived include Sonoma, Mendocino, Humboldt, Tulare, Fresno, Santa Clara, Contra Costa, Yolo counties to include the counties with the most numerous representation. Will exchange information and would appreciate information from anyone with ties to the above named individuals. Some descendants may have different spellings ie Lowrie, Lowery, Lowry, Loury, etc.
