Notes for Carl Lee Lowry: His parents separated when he was approximately 3 mos. of age and they subsequently divorced. His mother remarried when he was about 3 yrs. of age and they moved from Texas to California where he lived the remainder of his life. He was brought up near Fresno, his stepfather Morris died in 1913 when he was 12 yrs. of age. His mother remarried in 1914 when he was 13. He attended school through the 8th grade and then went to work. Throughout his life he was proud that he was never out of work. He worked: as a Chauffeur for Carnahan Stage Co., between Fresno and Auberry; in various jobs, including Machinist, Conductor, Fireman and Engineer for the San Joaquin & Eastern Railroad which ran from Pinedale to Huntington Lake; as a partner in Raney & Lowry, which was a neighborhood service station at Fresno and Olive Sts., where they sold gasoline, oil, ice, bread, cigarettes, candy and other miscellaneous items; as a truck driver and mechanic for Thompson Brothers and later for Stewart & Nuss [ both in the construction business of asphalt and portland cement ]; and spent his later years in the Lapidary business with his wife, Harriet Madonna Lowry, "Dona". He died from lung cancer caused by years of cigarette smoking.
