Jesse W. Lowry (son of John Lowry and Sarah) was born Abt. 1829 in North Carolina. He married Darcus Manard on June 08, 1848 in Jefferson County, Tennessee, daughter of Gibson Manard.
Notes for Jesse W. Lowry: When I started trying to trace the Lowry Family, in particular William Pinkney and his ancestors, I remembered that my grandmother [Mary Etta McConnell Lowry Morris Sharp] had told my sister and me that Wm P was born in 1870 in Tennessee. Shirley and I thought his name was William Pinkney Logan Lowry; after I started uncovering census', I decided we had been told that his father was Pinkney Logan Lowry. After many tries I found Wm P Lowry in the 1880 census of Knox County, Tennessee as the 10 yr old son of P. L. Lowry. I then traced P.L. to the family of John and Sarah Lowry in the 1850 census of Jefferson County, Tennessee; John 46 b VA, Sarah 48 b VA, Mary 20 b NC, Robert 18 b NC, Adaline 15 b NC, Pinkney 13 b NC, and David 10 b NC.
In the 1840 and 1830 census I found a John Lowry [Lowery] in Surry County, NC and Iredell County, NC that was a fairly close match to the 1850 family but there were older children that were not accounted for. I then returned to the 1850 census of Jefferson County, Tennessee and found that Jesse Lowry lived very close to John and his family; I believe Jesse was a son of John and Sarah. At that time he was listed as 21, b in NC and married to Darcus, 21, b in TN with their son, Isaac, 1,b in TN.
I have not been sucessful in locating Jesse in the 1860 census, but in the 1870 he was listed on the 6th day of Sept. in Jefferson County, Tennessee as : Lowry, Jepe 45 M W Farm laborer b in NC {the p is my interpretation of the script ss} Darcus 45 F " Keeps house b in TN Mary 16 F " No occupation " " " Cathorine 14 " " " " " " " Andrew J. 12 M " Farm laborer " " " Lewis M. 9 " " " " " Malinda 7 F " " " " Amanda 3 " " " " " Emaly 1 " " " " "

In the 1880 Census of Knox County, Tennessee on the 3rd day of June he was shown as follows: Lowery,Jesse W M 50 married Farmer b in NC Darcus W F 51 Wife " Keeping House b in TN Andrew J. " M 22 Son single Laborer " " " Lewis M. " " 20 " " " " " " Malinda C. " F 16 Dau. " At Home " " " Manda M. " " 14 " " " " " " " Emaline J. " " 10 " " " " " " " Thomas L. " M 8 " " " " "
In the 1900 Census of Jefferson County, Tennessee Darcus was enumerated living with their youngest child, Thomas L., while their oldest Isaac was in Dade County, Missouri.
I have corresponded with Aaron Michael Lowrey who is a direct descendent of Jesse and he also believes that Jesse was a son of John and Sarah. In the census' of the 1800's spellings varied [Lowery, Lowrey and Lowry] apparently due to the census taker; in the 1900 census of Dade County, Missouri, Jesse's son Isaac A. was enumerated as LOWREY. This branch uses this spelling.
