According to Valree, the first child of John Thomas and Mary Matilda Harrison, her grandmother, Mary Kinney Harrison died of bone disease after moving to near Maud, Texas and while John Thomas Harrison was still a teenager.
Family information indicates she was born in Clanton, Alabama; however it appears from census data that she may have been born in Lafayette County, Mississippi.[See notes under Samuel Clark Kinney]
