I am not a Rhymes descendant, but I do have extensive information on this family as it grew throughout the south.
My research began with John Harvey Rhymes who (it was said) was an orphan. This research was for his great-grandson, DR. R. Ray Rhymes JR.(1John Harvey, 2John Harrison, 3Raphael Ray(whose siblings are B. Etzel and Beatrice). The information I have gathered is almost complete. I just need to take one more trip to Louisiana to verify my findings. Much of my information was extracted from records in the Monroe, LA Library (a great genealogical resource) and the Library of Congress Genealogy Library in Washington, DC (also an extensive facility). What started out as a hobby soon turned into an obsession as I was determined to locate this family.
I believe I have and will update this site when I have confirmed my information.
In the 1850 Jackson Psh Census are as follows:

I felt that the Rymes children were probably related to the Calcotes so that's the direction I went in. Here is what I know.
1.Levi Gibson Calcote m. Mary Rounsavall 05/06/1939 Franklin Co.MS
2.Mary is the daughter of Arba and Susan (Allen) Rounsavall (married 1822 Franklin Co. MS).
3.Arba died prior to 1830 leaving Susan with 3 young daughters. 4.Mrs.Susan Rounsavall then remarried to John Rhymes04/04/1832. They are in LA by 1840.
5.Susan Rhymes died Aug. 1850 of Typhoid in Bossier Psh(leaving the children with no mother).
6.John Rhymes (52) and Willis Rhymes (28) are in the same house in Bossier Psh. 1850. No children are listed.
7.Now I refer to the Calcote household in Jackson Psh.
1.Wm H. Calcote is William Harrison.
2.Susan A. is Susan Allen.
3.David B. is David Barksdale
* All are Rhymes connections.
I am certain that John Rhymes and Susan(Allen)Rounsavall are the parents of Prissilla and Robert (Rymes). I am not sure if they are also the parents of the much younger Margaret and John H. It is possible that these younger two were actually grandchildren. This is the info I need to verify.
