I am able to trace the Maginnis family back about 150 years, but I would like to be able to track it even further. Back in the early 1980's my father was given some information about the Maginnis family from a cousin. His cousin told him that in the 1855 Chautauqua County, New York census is listed a James McGinnes. In February of 1856 when James applied for citizenship he signed his name James Maginnis. Our cousin went on to say "The intent to become a citizen states he was, late of Ireland, and renounces all allegience to the Queen of the United Kingdom of great Britain and Ireland. It must have been Queen Victoria at that date." As I come across more information about my heritage I will post it on this site. If you know anything about the people that I mention on this site I would love to hear from you. If we were able to get more information about our family, then maybe we could start having family reunions.
