| About Our Family Research |
|
Our branch of the family tree, began with Robert and Mary Bane. They originally settled in Big Spring, PA about 1777. Later they moved near Wheeling, WV. They are buried in "Old Tent" cemetery, near Oglebay Park.
Additional family members are buried at "High Ridge" cemetery. This is 14.5 miles West, in Belmont County, OH; near St. Clairsville.
The major original source if the family history is the "Giffen Gegealogic Family History" written by Rev. J. W. Giffen, DD, Cleveland, OH, 1927. Mr. Dick Giffen has used Family Tree Maker to convert 7,000 names into an electronic database. He may be contacted at dickgiffen@home.com.
I want to contact additional family members and post new information regarding the family's history. Photos of Robert & Mary's grave stones have been posted in the vitual cemetery.
Photos of the following grave stones are posted: (6/3/01) Robert Giffen Mary Bane Giffen George Giffen Mary (Nancy Jo Milligan) Giffen
Please send me any additional information you may have or contact me regarding any of the photos.

- Over view of Giffen and Bane markers (161 KB)
You can see from this photo, no one takes care of this cemetery. My brother and I hope to visit it again. Additional markers should be at this cemetery. We have a list of the Giffens buried here. Although, all of them may not have a grave stone. Fortunately, someone lives next door to the cemetery. They don't maintain it, but they watch over it.

The photo is from page 26 of the Giffen blue book.
The estate stands today, in the Parishes of Beth and Dalry and is situated 1 mile from Giffen Station, 3 miles from Dalry, 3 miles from Beith, and about 20 miles from Glasgow. I've heard the e present owners are rather unfriendly. Although, if you stop at the carriage house, it's inhabitants are welcoming.
