THE MAYNSTON(E) FAMILY ORIGINATED IN HEREFORDSHIRE IN THE 10th CENTURY. THEY WERE FROM AN AREA CALLED URCHINFIELD NEAR LLANGARRON. THE CREST HAD THREE HEDGEHOGS ON IT. HENCE THE NAME URCHINFIELD, URCHIN BEING THE OLD TERM FOR HEDGEHOG.

THE MAYNSTON(E)S SEEMED TO APPEAR NEXT IN THE GLOUCESTERSHIRE AREA, ALSO LONDON. IRON ACTON IN GLOUCESTERSHIRE DURING THE CENSUS YEARS FROM 1861 BECAME INHABITED BY A VERY LARGE FAMILY OF MAINSTONES.
