I have been researching my husband's family tree approximately 40 years - long before the wonderful age of the Internet! I have been able to go back to the original Mannions, who came to this country in 1849 from Ireland. They were a family of seven - Patrick, Margaret, John, Malachy, Patrick, Thomas and Mary. Their ship, the "Northumberland", came into Quebec from Ireland. They made it down to the Amsterdam, NY area where Patrick and Margaret are buried in St. Mary's cemetary in Fort Johnson. Thomas, my husband's G-Grandfather went into the Civil War (as a bounty soldier) from Amsterdam and was with the Union Army. His brother, Patrick, served in the Civil War for the Confederate Army (we do not know how this happened). For some reason, Thomas remained in the New York City area where he met, and married, Anne McElroy. They had five children - Elizabeth, Rose, Mary, John and Charles (my husband's Grandfather). Charles married Anne Gaffney - they had three children - Charles (my husband's Father), Mary and Joseph. Charles married Anne Corcoran of Moyne, County Longford, Ireland. They had five children - Charles, Farrell (my husband), Margaret, Maureen and John.
