About Our Family Research

Thomas Griffith Toland was born 12/29/1900 in Pittsburg PA. He was My Dad. He changed his name to George Raymond Thompson when he was about 21/22 years old. He served as in the marines in the Panama Canal Zone as a motorcycle courier (We have pictures of him in his marine uniform. So proud he was. I have just added some more service info. for my Dad. I received his records a few months ago from the government.) His birth mother was LouAnna Rebecca Sponaugle. (She died in 1912).

George married Mildred Rockwood (not sure when or where, still researching)maybe in Rochester NY (he was previously married but we don't know to whom. We do know that there was a son (adopted or his own?)not sure about that son),and for the majority of Mildred and Georges lives they lived in Albany NY. He was a prominent business man. He worked for Armory Garage before he set up his own business. He ran a successful automotive repair shop on Yates Street in Albany until he died in 1981. Mildred ran a very successful beauty salon next to the garage for many years. She spent the last 4-5 years of her life in nursing homes due to Alheimers. Mildred passed away June 5, 2001.

I have only just begun to research my tree. Please feel free to check out the complete site. It will be updated often,as I receive more information every day. Also, you will notice that information on anyone who is living is private. You can ask me questions if you would like but I will not publish information on a living person on my tree. If you have any information that you think I might be interested in please e-mail me. I will update this site as often as I can. If you can help fill in blanks for me feel free to e-mail me and I will respond to you. Enjoy my site.

I would also like to give my sincere thanks to Elaine Jeter for a bulk of information on the Spunaugle Tree. Her work has proven very valuable to my tree. Thanks again Elaine.
