Harrison and his father, William were killed when a cyclone struck their home around 9:00 PM on October 17, 1905.Harrison's Mother, Cordelia, and his fifteen year old brother, Joseph, were seriously injured. Two other siblings (Lydia & Josephine) at home at the time were injured. Cordelia's face was crushed and she also had internal injuries when she was thrown across the railroad tracks that ran along side their home. She was not expected to survive her injuries.
