William and his son, Harrison, were killed when a cyclone struck their home around 9:00 PM on October 17, 1905. William's wife, Cordelia, and his fifteen year old son, Joseph, were seriously injured. Two other children (Lydia & Josephine) at home at the time were injured. Cordelia's face was crushed and she also had internal injuries when she was thrown across the railroad tracks that ran along side their home. According to the newspaper articles she was not expected to survive her injuries but she did.
