I began the research of my family roots begining with my great grandfather, Richard M.(Dick)Manning, born in Paulding County, Georgia about 1868-and died May 19,1942 in St. Clair County, Alabama. He married Drucilla Jane Karr August 27, 1887. From this union six children were born. Thus began the descendant line that Betty Faye Willingham colligated in 1980 and provided to memebers of the family at one of our annual family reunions.
Sadly enough, the reunions ceased after my father, Roy Lee Manning passed away. It seems that he was the magnet needed to hold things together. Since then our reunions only take place when a family member passes away. We are still close knit and visit as much as possible, but it will never be the same.
Now as time marches on and there remains few of us who can remember the good old days, I have chosen to pick up where Betty left off by doing a comprehensive research of our ancestors. I began this work about four years ago and although I have had some success and have written my first book on our family, I find there is much more to be done. As a matter of fact, just keeping up with the new borns is a job within itself. Eventually, I plan to submit my book "The Manning Family Tree Of Life" in its entirety to be viewed and downloaded from the Internet. It will never replace a good old family reunion but perhaps it will act in someway as an adhesion for generations to come.
