My genealogical research began in the late 1970s. Then, my only access to available information was the wonderful historical library in Bartow, FL and waiting for responses to letters via the postal service.
Now, after a recent trip to Hillsville, VA, I have resumed my quest. When I was a child, my father had told me about a branch of our family that "shot up the courthouse", a story his father had told him. Although I haven't found my connection to the Hillsville Allens, the internet has provided a new wealth of information. My thanks to the many who have worked to transcribe census records and the many contributors on the Pike County, Arkansas sites.
My current mysteries are JOHN W. ALLEN, b about 1809 in NC and WILLIAM (N or A) HAYNES, b 6/5/1851.
Martin Osborne is somewhat of a mystery also. The notation on the back of his photo says he is Marilza's only brother. However, I cannot find anything in census records to support that. The other photo notes that Roy is his son. Neither can I find documentation that he had a son.
I've tried to maintain accuracy - however, please let me know if you find errors and, particularly, if you have additional information, please share it with me! If you should find a connection here, feel free to email me. I'd be delighted to meet you and exchange information.
