I am researching the Nordmark/Nordmarken and the Mrotek/Marotteck geneology in the Otter Tail Area of Minnesota.
The reason for the slashes between the names is that it appears that the families started out as one name and changed the name somewhere in the 1900's.
I am researching the Guldbrand Nordmark family from Norway. Guldbrand Nordmarken first appears in the 1880 census. He married Marthe from Norway and they had two daughters: Tina and Mina, and three sons: Oscar, Alfred, and Oliver. In the 1900 census it looks like Gilbert Nordmarken had another daughter Amelia and a boarder Nels Lillevold were living in the Otter Tail area. Also, through other sources I found Guldbrand had four brothers: and five sisters that came to America with him.
In addition, I'm researching the Constant Mrotek family of Leaf Moutain, Otter Tail, MN. He came from Germany around 1881, married Maria Miller in the abt.1886 and they eventually had five sons, Frank, John, Peter, Albert, and Antone plus two daughters, Theresa, and Mary. They too have changed their name somewhere in the 1900's to Marotteck for what reason I do not know, but am interested to find out more.
Any information would be appreciated. I am also willing to share the information that I have.
