I have been reserching my roots in the Nicoll family for the past 18 years. My work has identified over 600 relations dating back to 1762. About 50% of the realtions live in the US and the rest in Scotland. Most of these originated from the north east of Scotland - primarily Dundee and the surrounding areas of what was known as Forfarshire - now Tayside. Prior to the industial revolution in the mid 1800's the family seems to have lived in the north east costal area towards Brechin and up as far as Aberdeen. Later relatives moved to St Andrews and to Bristol in England. A branch of the family emigrated to the US in the early 1900's settleing in New York and Philladelphia. Probably the most intriguing aspect of my research is the mysterious marriage in 1903 and the subsequent dissappearance of Florence Rosina Voisey, born about 1884 in Bedminster, near Bristol in England, UK. and the attempts by a Solicitors firm in Bristol to trace the whereabouts of her husband, William (Silk or Coutts) Nicoll or Smith in the years after the the second World War. Other related family names - In the UK include - Matthew, Voisey, Strachan, Whitehurst, Silk, Speirs. In the US include - Perks, Dunn, Mitchell, Cook, Scott
