my research into the matthews family began in the early 1980's when we visited an old grave out in the country in polk co., tx. my brother had been told about this grave. it was our great grandfather's grave, and had a civil war marker along with the tombstone. the matthews family is quite large, and i knew very little about it. i've met and talked with cousins i didn't know existed in the last 18 years. i've only been to one family reunion, but have had nice visits with relatives. the video camera and the camera have been priceless when talking with relatives, since many have passed away over the years. keeping up with the new members and their birthdays has been the most challenging. every time i find another generation back is so exciting. recently, i found where someone else had gone back two more generations back on the waldrep family(sarah jane waldrep was my great grandmother married to joseph malley matthews) i have also worked on my husband's family(jesse lowe) and have found a lot of information.
