John Knox and Jean Gracy , Salisburg, North Carolina

John Knox and wife Jean, came to America in about 1740 settling in Salisburg, North Carolina (Rowan). They cane from Irland with several of their sons and one daughter. According to some old records, they had a 600 land grant prior to leaving Irland.. Their sons served in the Rev car. One of their sons were killed in the war and one of their sons was the grandfather of James K polk, president of the United States. In about l804, after Tennessee became a State and the land west of the mountains, became open for settlers and land grantees. One of the sons, Joseph and son, Thomas received a land grant of 3800 acres which was given to the wife of one of the sons killed in the war. Over the years some of the land had been sold .Some of the land has been handed down generation to generation to several descantants. My mother, Lois Knox, dauther of Joe Knox, was reared on the land in which has been handed down to Willie Hall Knox. My mother was reared in the house that Joseph Knox buillt in the early 1800.
